The Saratoga is part of the U.S. Atlantic fleet and participated in operation Desert Storm in 1990/91. Launched in 1956, this aircraft carrier is continuously up-dated, especially its radar and electronic systems.
Introduced to the RNLI in 1995, the all-weather Severn Class Lifeboat is the largest in their fleet. It has a range of 250 nautical miles and a top speed of 25 knots. It carries a powered Y boat that can be launched and recovered by a lightweight crane to enable rescues close to shore. It propellers are protected so it can take ground without damage.
M/S "Batory” ordered for serving the line to North America (NY and Halifax) cruises in heavy North Atlantic conditions. Lighter cruises were trip cruises, but before war time there were only 9 of them.
In order to save return of the North American line and change its profile from emigrant-to tourist-oriented, Gdynia-America Lines developed new liners. Italian Monfalcone company was selected to do so and made two passenger ships similar to the Italian "Victoria".
