The Saratoga is part of the U.S. Atlantic fleet and participated in operation Desert Storm in 1990/91. Launched in 1956, this aircraft carrier is continuously up-dated, especially its radar and electronic systems.
Introduced to the RNLI in 1995, the all-weather Severn Class Lifeboat is the largest in their fleet. It has a range of 250 nautical miles and a top speed of 25 knots. It carries a powered Y boat that can be launched and recovered by a lightweight crane to enable rescues close to shore. It propellers are protected so it can take ground without damage.
During World War II, Gato class, and its successor, the Balao class, carried much of the burden of the submarine war in the Pacific Ocean. These new fleet submarines were successful boats that proved to be fast, strong, well armed, and prepared to the long-range patrols necessary to fight in the Pacific.
