Wildcat was the main shipboard fighter when the US entered WWII. The F4F was barrel-shaped, with angular wingtips and rudder and a narrow-track undercarriage. The F4F was well-armed and reliable, and was a natural shipboard aircraft, probably more easier to land on a carrier deck than on land.
The aircraft carrier U.S.S. Kitty Hawk CV 63 entered service in April 1961 after a prolonged project based upon the Forrestal class. During the last 30 years the Kitty Hawk has been altered considerably, specially in what concerns defence armament and electronic equipment. These up-dates keep the carrier in maximum use.
The Saratoga is part of the U.S. Atlantic fleet and participated in operation Desert Storm in 1990/91. Launched in 1956, this aircraft carrier is continuously up-dated, especially its radar and electronic systems.
