On the 6th of June 1944 General Dempsey's troops of the British Expeditionary Force landed on the beaches of Normandy codenamed Sword, Juno, and Gold. The D-Day had thus come. The British Expeditionary Force was to land and quickly take over the town of Caen while Americans were to seize control of the Cotenin peninsula and the Cherbourg port.
